Bands
Reading's very own Roots reggae band. Aqua has shared a stage with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Mad Professor and Jah Shaka among others. Over the years he has played Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Womad and Notting Hill Carnival.
There is a clip of Aqua's stunning performance from Screwball Cabaret available at Ring the Alarm
One of Reading's most hottly tipped bands, Polar Remote produce a deep and gutsy sound that manages to be both sweeping and intricate, laced with both melancholy and exuberance.
From Oxford comes a band that Kerrang said "sounds like Autopsy jamming with Captain Beefheart". Fronted by former circus performer Liam Ings-Reeves the Treatment spiral from heavy staccato metal riffs into gypsy jazz or country waltzes.
The BBC called them "a band to watch in 2005" Fresh, original, groovy, acoustic British soul with an edge. Fronted by Sam Carter this relatively new band have already been impressing audiences all over the South East.
Top local songwriter Ben Marwood has graced stages such as Womad and Duckfest. He was booked for Screwball after seriously impressing us with his bittersweet melodies on the Derelict Sessions radio show.
Kraked is Reading's premier beats and electronica night. We've managed to poach their two best djs - Mike Rak and Tizz for Screwball Cabaret. Expect bleepy bloppy weirdness and infectious beats.
